Andreas Schamel was appointed managing director of the European Ford Research Center based in Aachen, Germany, as well as Chief Engineer Powertrain Research & Advanced Engineering Europe effective January 1st, 2009.
Prior to his current assignment, Andreas Schamel was the Chief Engineer, Engine Research, Research & Advanced Engineering for Ford Motor Company, based in Dearborn, Mich. USA. His responsibilities included the Research, Advanced Development and Testing associated with gasoline engines & diesel engines for North America as well as the lead for hydrogen internal combustion engine fleet and research.
Previous to this position, Schamel was Manager Gasoline Powertrain R&A Europe, based in Cologne, Germany, also leading the development of Gasoline Direct Injection Technology for Ford.
Schamel has been with Ford since 1987 starting in component analysis CAE, Engine Engineering. His background in Engines spans 21 years, with primary qualifications in Mechanical Engineering, a MSc in Advanced Automotive Engineering from Loughborough University of Technology (UK) and a PhD focusing on valve spring dynamics. His early years included assignments in Base Engine Development, Program Management and Product Launch.
During his professional career, Schamel had an ongoing strong linkage to technology development and developed a passion to bring new concepts to fruition.
Schamel is married with three children. He was born in Bonn in 1962.
