Hal Feder is President and Chief Executive Officer for Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa, a position to which he was appointed in October 2006. He oversees Ford's entire business operations in the country, including product development, purchasing, material logistics, manufacturing, marketing, sales, and customer service activities. He is responsible for growing the Ford, Mazda, and Volvo brands, directing day-to-day operations of Ford's manufacturing sites in Port Elizabeth and Pretoria, as well as working with our key partners in government, media, suppliers, and the union.
Prior to moving to South Africa, Feder was Director of Ford's North American Fleet, Lease, and Remarketing Operations, a position to which he was appointed in March 2004. He was responsible for fleet sales to commercial customers, governmental agencies, and rental accounts, as well as overseeing of the company's remarketing operations. During 2006, the Ford, Mercury, and Lincoln brands sold almost 900,000 new vehicles to fleet customers and wholesaled another 600,000 used vehicles to dealers through the company's auction network.
Feder joined Ford in 1983 and has progressed through a series of sales, marketing, and strategy assignments in Ford Division, Lincoln Mercury Division, and Ford Customer Service Division. In addition, he worked in Product Development and Global Product Marketing. His 23 year career with Ford has included management positions in both Dearborn and Regional Sales Offices in Louisville, Atlanta, Orlando, and Memphis.
Feder was Brand Strategy Manager for Lincoln Mercury from September 1996 until May 1998 when he transitioned to Customer Service Division as their Business Strategy and Communications Manager. In December 1999, Feder became the Product Marketing Manager for the Lincoln and Mercury brands and was responsible for integrating voice of the customer input into the product planning process.
In January 2002, Feder returned to his hometown of Memphis, Tennessee to become Ford Division's Regional Sales Manager, where he was responsible for 260 Ford dealers in the Mid-South Region, which covers all or parts of eight different states, including metropolitan markets in Memphis, Nashville, Little Rock, Jackson, Shreveport, Baton Rouge, and New Orleans.
Feder was born May 15, 1959 and is a graduate of the University of Kansas, where he earned a bachelor's of science degree in Business Administration in May 1981. In December 1982, he earned an MBA from the University of Florida in Gainesville.
Hal and his wife Joyce have three children -- Lindsay (22), Grant (19), and Hannah (18).
