The transportation collection of The Henry Ford is among the most comprehensive and varied in the country.   Its great strength is road transportation.   Over 200 automobiles and trucks represent nearly every major technological, styling, or marketing development between 1865 and 1984.  These are complemented by a similar number and diversity of horsedrawn vehicles, bicycles, and motorcycles.

The railroad collection is much smaller, but is anchored by an outstanding group of eleven steam locomotives.  Finally, a group of civilian aircraft document the rich and colorful history of flight between the two World Wars, the so-called "Golden Age of Aviation."
