Library & Archives:

Though known most widely for its vast museum and open-air living history village, The Henry Ford also houses a nationally significant collection of business records, automotive product literature and periodicals, manuscripts, photographs, prints, postcards, maps, trade catalogs, early American dictionaries, and other library and special collection material. Together these materials are known as the Library and Archives collections or, equally, as the Benson Ford Research Center collections.

The largest portion of the Library and Archives collections is the vast pre-1955 archive of the Ford Motor Company, an archive that will grow in the near future to include later decades of the company's history. However, the Library and Archives collections are much broader than this; overall they mirror the major emphases of the museum and the village--transportation, agriculture, industry, communication, and the household--with special emphasis on issues of production, distribution, and consumption. The Library and Archives collections are accessible to the public through the free reading room of the institution's Benson Ford Research Center.
