I've been raised in a Mustang family from (pratical) day one. My dad took one of the first off the lot a Dub Shaw Ford in Ft. Worth Texas when they were introduced in 1964. A gold 289 coupe. Just months after getting that one, we had to make a n emergency trip to Los Angeles to "rescue" my sister. A little something called the Watts Riots kinda upset her summer vacation plans. I spent the whole trip sleeping on the back deck. Not much for child safety seats in those days. Dad (and that Mustang) made the trip from Cowtown to Tinsletown in less than 26 hours. You can imagine the speed we we're doing across the desert.

Since then, my older brother has owned two ('68 GT, 72 Cobra) and I drove a certain '64.5 coupe through high school and on to college. That car still sits in my dad's driveway today - ready to make another trip to LA.

I've managed to buy myself a beautiful '65 white convertible with blue interior from a poor soul in Campbell CA whose wife said they were too old to drive around topless. I'll never forget the look on his face when I drove his baby away....or the apprecia tion in his eyes when I would show up in his driveway on a perfect Saturday afternoon to do a little cruisin' in the mountains around San Jose.

The first car I remember my father buying was a new 1965 Mustang. It was a 6 cylinder, automatic, no thrill Honey Gold coupe, with air conditioning. My dad drove the car until the late 70's when he parked it and finally sold it to a family f riend in 1983. Little did I know then that one day I would fall in love with the small pony cars and desire one of my own.

I tried unsuccessfully on several ocassions to purchase my dad's car back but to no avail. Yet still I had to have an early Pony of my own. I finally got my dream fulfilled. I purchased a 1966 GT. This little black beauty was much different from my da d's, having a 289 V-8, red pony interior, and a few other options, but it still brought back memories. I have owned several classic cars over the last 10 years, but for shear fun of ownership and driving pleasure, none compare to my little pony car. It i s definitely my "keeper".

I own a 1968 Mustang Fastback that I bought in 1978, as a Senior in High School. The car was driven in central New York winters for the ten years before I owned it, and required lots of body work to make it look as good as new again. I spent countless days and nights working on the car, which kept me out of trouble. The car always was and still is a head turner - with its original Royal Maroon paint and white C-stripe. I have fond memories of driving the car in my high school and college days. I still own the car today, and plan on giving it to my eldest son when he's in high school.

I own and drive daily a 1964 1/2 Mustang coupe. It was designed as a basic family car and that is fine it has plenty of power and room and gets realtively great gas mileage on the highway (23 mpg at 65 mph loaded or or not). I have found that since I go to college away from my family that one can stuff most of an apartment into one of these cars.

According to "Old Cars News" less than 3,000 of all 1964 1/2 Mustangs were built with the six cylinder engine. I was planning to hold onto it anyway if I could but now I have a bigger reason, it may actually be worth money someday!

The car as it stands today still has some original equipment on it. When I bought it I had to replace the rest of the original front suspension. I had to buy a replacement coil for the original. I even rebuilt the master cylinder-albeit it did not need it. I still drive around with the original brake system. The seals are original along with the hoses and they don't leak!
