Well I am 16 years old, and I drive a 91 Ford Mustang that I worked for 2 years so save up and buy. I now have a 67 Shelby GT500 that I am restoring. I bought the Shelby for $800. This lady in my friends neighborhood has selling a nice 67 Shelby GT500. Her husband died 11 years ago, and the car was been sitting there for that long. I ripped the lady off, witch I know sounds mean, but for $800 dollars.... YOU"D DO THE SAME!!!! The Shelby now is in our shed, being restored. My dad and I work on the car for hours at a time. For being 16, I do know a lot about cars but I am still learning. I am rebuilding the engine myself, of course my dad is showing me the ropes. Please e-mail me if intrested at MadPaul75@hotmail.com

I am 12 years old. But my love of cars has been in me since the day I was born. In pennsylvania you can get a learners permit at 15. I will be 13 in a little while, so I only have 2 years till I'm legaly allowed to drive. I recently accomplished the large task of talking my dad into buying me a stang GT convertable. Ever since its been mustang mania in my house. My room is full of pictures and drawings of stangs old and new. But I am now posed with the quetion of how to fill those long two years. Any suggetions call me I'm desperate!!!

My very first car I drove was a 1964 1/2 mustang my dad had fully restored. It was gold with white pony interior and I have had mustang fever ever since. While I drove that car through out high school, my dad was working on restoring one for me. In turn I was working to earn money to pay for it. When I turned 17 the 1965 mustang my dad had been restoring for me was done and this one was silver with a black vinyl top and black pony interior, it was gorgeous. My father died shortly there after and my fondest memories are of him working in the garage restoring mustangs and teaching me all about them. I am now 36 years old and have owned a sucession of mustangs over the years, all 1965-66. I currently own a 1965 3 speed which I just brought to the body shop yesterday to be fully restored and painted the color of my choice (which I still have not decided). My love of mustangs stems from my dad and my memories, but also the beauty of the car. There is nothing like sitting behind the wheel of a mustang and cruising down the road.

I'll never forget the feeling the first time I drove a 65 Mustang. It was sorta a jade green color with mixed tans throughout the interior. My dad purchased the car new and saved it for his sos's to drive. It was a 289 4-speed car, and with 29 inch tall bias plys, I was the talk of high school. The car was involved in a serious accident 4 years ago and has set since. My mother decided she would like us to restore it rather than get a new 00' Mustang GT. Our project has begun, I can't wait to experience The Mustang all over again.

That was a 67 Shelby Mustang 300 GT. It wasn't 65, and it wasn't 350 or 500. I'm a real classic car buff myself, and I am sorry if I seemed a little upset over my mistake, but 65 and 67 were different years, and 350... Well, to each his own...

Hello, I was just wanting to comment on the 65 Mustang because it is a great car and is great to drive in. I love classics. It would be great if I could put my car in the internet and have a great photo of it. But I got to run so good luck to your Mustang,s.

My husband and I recently bought a 1965 coupe. It is going to take a bit of work to restore it. I told him that I wanted an old mustang, and wouldn't you know it he found one!We are having some work done on the engine and it should be ready tomorrow. I can't wait to be able to drive it. We haven't decided on a color yet, but I'm thinking either green or red.He is now really excited about the 'stang as well. All I know is that it is going to be beautiful! It is definitely going to be a family project and heirloom.

I would just like to say that I am 33-years old and I am actually "giddy" with excitement right now! I have been looking for my first Mustang for a while now and today I have found it it's a beautiful maroon color with the two white LeMans stripes that run from front to back on this 1965 fastback it has 30k on the mildly built 289 original V8 and it is an automatic with factory A/C. I am going to go pick the car up at 7:00p.m. tonight and I can hardly wait! All my life I have owned those invisble everyday cars that about 99% of us have, you know the practical, efficient and sensible type of car. I feel like today my life really begins! Funny, I always thought that a car like this was for all those "lucky" guys out their. You just have to wake up one day and say "fu@k it" and then do it :]

I am currently restoring the car I drove to school 21 years ago. Of course it is a 1965 Mustang. My Mother bought it new April 3 1965. She always insisted on keeping the car through the years. The car was always like a part of the family. She drove the car herself until 1976.That year she decided the mustangs were way too ugly to buy. A mere shell of their former selves she said. Of course I fully agree. I feel the 1965 is mustang in its purest form. The graceful body ,the bared grill , the dash, the door panels well really the whole package were dead on right the first time around.Even now looking at it, it is hard to believe this car is 35 years old. Through old family photos of my sister and I it was always there.A photo made on the day the car was bought with my father and sister down in front of the mustang is one of my most prized posessions.I was 2 complete with shorts and a bow-tie. My sister had on a purple dress a doll now wears. And the mustang was wearing rangoon red paint with red interior and a saucey little 289 always kept in perfect tune by my dad who ran a service station then. Mom and dad divorced years ago and I am 37 now with 2 daughters of my own ( the 12 year old a future mustanger ) and a 6 year old who thinks its the prettiest car she ever saw. My sister 39 has been married to an absolute Ford nut for 16 years. So many things have changed so many people in and out of my life. The only thing that has not changed , that has stayed young and beautiful is that majic mustang. There are new mustangs in the family now my sister a 2000 white one and my mom, a black cobra from 1995. Yep she is 61 now and would never think twice about raceing any thing with a bow-tie on it.

Recently I purchased a beautiful 1964 1/2 ford mustang. I enjoy my car to no end. I bought it at a classic car dealer in southern ca.thinking it was a late 65. After doing extensive research with the Ford Historical society I learned it is indeed an "Early 65". How i came to get this car is a really funny story. In aug. of 99 I lost my brand new 1999 Ford Mustang in a head on collision. I was devestated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I decided after a period of time to look for an older mustang. While driving around with a friend I happened to pass that dealer, and it was love at first sight. While waiting for my bank to approve the loan, there were several items being replaced on the car which kept it form the actual point of sale. It almost seemed that all along ,it was destined to be mine. I remember when the owner took it off the lot to have it repainted from a drury black to a cherry red. It was just really strange because i was on my way to school one when a red mustang passed me. funny as it may be it was her and she's been with me ever since, and will be for life.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My Mom had a "Cherry Red" '66 Mustang for almost 20 years. We sold it around '97, but I've always wanted a 65. Would anyone be so kind as to e-mail me and tell me of any '65's in or around Amarillo, Texas, or Potter county. Thank You

My brother and I picked out my graduation present from my Dad in 1967...it was a 1965 "Ragoon Red" Mustang Convertible. It was a 6 cyl. automatic with red interior and a black convertible roof. I took such good care of that car; it was garaged every night and when I brought it in the garage, I would shake off the floor mats to keep it nice and clean. I'd check the weather report each night to be sure that the top was down for driving to work the next day. I was quite a sight driving that hot little car. It had a manual convertible roof. I remember driving down a main street one afternoon all dressed up in a mini dress and heels when all of the sudden, a terrific cloudburst of rain came. As I pulled over on the side of the road to get in the back seat to raise the roof up, I must have caused quite a stir bending over in my mini! A few years later, I had to be a big shot who needed a "new" car. I sold my '65 for a 1969 Mustang Grande. I loved that car too but the '65 still has a special place in my heart!

3 years ago, my daughter & Iwent to car show. She asked me if we could buy a car and fix it up together. That week end I purchased a 1965 Mustang GT Fastback. During the last 3 years, I have been able to teach my daughter just about everything to restore this car. Now we show it a several meets and guess what? She can walk the walk and talk the talk with them best of them. Makes a father proud.

I just bought a 1965 Mustang coupe 6cyl 4sp manual to fix up. I've always wanted a classic car and I'm in love... I'm working on the interior and replacing trim ect. The body is in good shape with no rust. I never realized how easy it is to work on these cars. I'm addicted to Mustangs now. I'm learning alot and hopefuly planning to get a V8 Mustang as well. I like you sight it's very interesting.

For the past two years my father and I have been restoring a 67 coupe. He had a 67 Shelby Cobra when he was a kid and always talked abot mustangs as I grew up, so we got the 67 for a father son time car. We just got done Its candy apple red with the white stripe on the bottom, black interor, with factory air. Just this weeked we put on an Edlebrock 298 preformer manifold and 4 barrel caborator also by edlbrock. It may not be as fast as his Shelby but its fast enough for me, and I respect the car because of all the time that went into it.

My wife Joan and I have three Mustangs, a 1970 BOSS 302, a 1978 Mustang II and and a '96 GT. We are very active in the Valley Forge Mustang Club and attend many cruise nights and car shows. Our Mustangs are members of the family and we have enjoyed many hours of "Mustang cruisin'". The looks on the faces of people as we pass by tell us how strong the attraction for Mustangs still is today.

I've always been a ford NUT! Since high school here in Wisconsin, I've owned Fords. Starting with a 74 pinto?!?!, yes a pinto, it was a hell of a project but it ended with a 460 c.i. mountain motor. Than it was a 66 mustang with a 6 cyl. and auto... boring! Later came a 67 fairlane that I put close to 15,000 dollars into, first we took out the 289 and put in a 351 cleveland, took out the auto and put in a toploader 4 gear. After narrowing the 9 inch and putting in nitrous, a roll cage, frame connecters and a ladder bar suspention it ran a top quarter mile time of 11.08 @ 137 m.p.h! Now that I'm turning 39 years young, I'm now slowing down, breaking parts drag racing can be AWLFULLY expensive! My latest and maybe my last? project is a 1965 mustang coupe set up for autocross with torque thrust d's and shelby clone parts, its sure turning out to be a money sponge, if you out there in computer land have parts for a 289/302 (aftermarket)CHEAP!, let me know fastcar65@hotmail.com

My sisters both had Mustangs. My mom and dad had numberous Mustangs. So why am I without one? My love is a 1966 Candy Apple Red Mustang. About two days ago, my boyfriend, an avid car nut, tried to tell me that they didn't make a Candy Apple Red Mustang. I was very upset, my dreams crashed. Then, I ventured onto the net and found the car of my dreams. Maybe I won't get it tommorrow, or the next day, or even in 30 years, but it is my dream and no one can take that away. To everyone with these "cars of the gods", you are the luckiest people alive, and to everyone wishing, you will one day find your dream, till then keep the Mustang love alive!!

I am 19 yrs old, and about three years ago I saw this red car driving infront of us (my dad and I) and was taken back by the car I asked my father what kind of car it was but it had driven off by the time he could look. I walked around for weeks with this car in my head looking at pics etc trying to find out the name of this, finally whilst out with my father again we saw another one and I yelled there it is ! Ohh said my dad, Thats a mustang, my boy ! Even the name of the car impressed me. And I have felt this way about the car ever since, I'm writting to say that when I read all of these entries from 14 yr olds and 45 yr olds alike I am reminded that there is another reason we all love these cars. Because of what they represent, They represent a car thats totally yours, that your friends probably think isn't worth the time nor the effort, but still you love nothing more than late nights working on the car or just cleaning it. Maybe you work on it by yourself maybe it's with a friend of family member. I realise that these cars are such a classic because they have become more than just a classic, there a way of life for some people. Personally I can't afford a mustang myself they go for about $30,000 here Thats about 22 g's in US currency, But I hope one day to be writting to you all again telling you about my new car, A 1965 Pony, candy apple red, park it close to my house drive it around on weekends. And I envy you all for being able to do it now ! See You round the corner !

I have a '65 V8 coupe which came over from Virginia to the U.K. in '92. It's a good straight and unmolested car - and best of all - it was bloody cheap (£2,500 - with a spare engine block and a trunk full of bits). I'm now rebuilding the engine to give it a bit more ooomph! and I will be returning it to it's original colour - Springtime Yellow (it's currently red). You don't see many Mustangs over here and it certainly turns heads!

I just joined the "65 Mustang family today! Love your cars. I have 2 questions though. 1 -- Where is the VIN # located? 2 -- It seems I no longer have a data plate on the door. Can I get my data plate info from you (your old records) based on the VIN #? There is a website for reproducing data plates but appearently they are only able to look up the data from the VIN back to 1967 (with your permission). Can you or someone else provide for my '65 (please)? Hope you can help.

Being 9 years old and my father building Falcons and then Mustangs at the Metuchen/Edison plant in New Jersey, I was and still am a true fan of any Mustang. I feel it changed the way we think about cars, allowing us to feel younger and more spirited in our travels. I currently drive a 2000 GT, the fourth of different 'Stangs I have had over the years. Keep the same fresh approch in your future designs, keep it rear wheel drive, and I promise to continue being the fan that I am!

My first car was an ivy green 66 mustang with a standard parchment interior, a 6 cylinder engine and power steering. The car leaked like crazy whenever it rained, and had a horrible heater, but whenever I saw it I smiled. It was easily the most fun I've ever had driving. Eventhough it was a clean daily driver at best, it always got looks, and I met more than one person who introduced themselves with the line "I used to have a mustang just like that...." I drove it daily for almost 6 years before a head on collision with a 91 mustang totalled it. That accident broke my heart and thinking about it even now makes me sad. Three years later I made my second, and current, Mustang purchase. I'm in the middle of restoring an ivy green 65 covertible. I'm very excited about this car because not only is it the same color as my first car, but it has a deluxe palomino interior (pony), it is an A code V8 (4bbl), with a 4 speed, limited slip rear and disk brakes up front...all from the factory! Its only got 53,000 miles on it, and right now its sporting hi-po exhaust manifolds that I added and dual gt exhausts that were dealer added in 65. When it is running, the throaty sound of the exaust is music to my ears. With any luck I will finish the interior by the spring and have a great car to take to shows and drive on the weekend!! Great site, great car, great memories!!!

I love your sites. Good pictures and a lot of history. Would you like to hear my personal mustang-history? With the age of 16 I told my father, that I will buy a MUSTANG as soon as I made my drivinglicence. So I saved all my money and I realised my dream: With the age of 18 I bougt my first MUSTANG. It was a 65' limousine with the small engine. This car was in a terrible condition, but the only one I could buy. Two years later in 1980, this car broke down. So I buyed my next MUSTANG. That was an 67' limousine, also with the 6 cylinder motor. I sold this car next year, because I went for 6 months to the USA and I needed the money. Back from the states, I bought another MUSTANG. This time I've got an 68' limousine with a small block. This car was neither in a good nor in a bad condition. I had this car from 1982 to 1986. Then a little miracle happend: In the farest dark corner of the showroom from a small FORD-representation I discovered my dream: A 66' MUSTANG in Wimbledon White with red interior, a limousine with the 289 ci engine. It's a normal version without any extras. Nearly no rust, only 100'000 kilometers driven in 20 years, only driven in summer (important circumstance here in Switzerland), all original, preowned by a nonsmoker. I instantly knew, that I must own this car. The salesman told me, that this was the first car he sold, when he opended in 1966 this representation. The buyer was Katharina Mann, the wife of the Nobel prize winner Thomas Mann. She was 83 years old, when she bought this car! Twenty years later she died and the salesman took the car back to resell it. So I became the 2nd owner of a beautiful 20 years old classic car in a top condition. The first time I went to an event with more then 400 MUSTANGs (64-74), this car won the 2nd price for the excellent original condition. I knew, that this car is something special from the first moment I saw him, but I never expected to win prices! I still own this car and it's still in that very good original condition. So, that is my MUSTANG history. Chris

The first car I ever drove on the street was a '65 "stang". My girlfreind at the time, got it for her 16th birthday. It was, as the kids say today,... "WAY COOL" !!! I have to admit...my all time favorite Mustang was the 1968 Shelby Cobra GT500 convertible. WHOA !!! Now that was a ride!!! Even though I'm pushing 50, I'd still give anything to own one of those, just to tool around town on a HOT August night... Rob Hayes

I never owned a mustang. My brother had a 1966 candy apple red convertible. I fell in love with it the moment he brought it home. When he got married he decided to sell it. I had the money to buy it, but he wouldn't let me. I always loved mustangs since I was very, very young. Now that a few years have gone by he wishes he would of sold me the car. That way he could borrow it. It is my dream to own a mustang convertible, one day I will.

My first car was a '66 Stang. It needed a lot of TLC when I bought it, but it was well worth the time. When I first decided to buy a car I knew that I would only settle for a first generation Mustang and i waited until I found one. What a ride. Th ere was nothing in school that could touch it. It had a 289 2v with a 3 speed and 2.8 rear gears. 1800 rpm was 55 mph so do the math and figure out where 5500 rpm gets you. The faster it went, the better it handled. Now I want another to rebuild. I just t raded my Porsche (no joke) for this computer and I hope it helps me find a new project. Wish me luck!!!

My dad owns a restored 1965 K-Code 289 4v HiPo Mustang convertible. It's Ivy Green Mettalic. I love this car with all my heart. The Mustang is hands down the best car ever produced by Ford...and I would say the best car ever built. The sweet rumble ema nating from of the HiPo is music to my ears. The power is sweet throughout the RPM range. The HiPo engine loves to rev unlike any other small block V8 of the day. The red line is 8000! This engine begs for a 5th gear! It cruises in 4th at an insanely high RPM!. Well I cant wait till my dad lets me drive it, but for now I have to settle for shotgun (which is damn fun). I'm a car enthusiast (nut), and specifically a Mustang enthusiast, and I'm not even old enough to vote (just under 2 years shy of that). If anyone wants to talk with me, or talk with me about about my dads mustang or mustangs in general, my AOL screen names are Helmet959, Pnnywise44, and Davidcq (add @aol.com to email me) PS, love the website! david

I bought my first Mustang in 1983, it was a 64' convertable with cherry red interior. It had 70,000 original miles and still flew like it was brand new. Now I have a 79' mustang and a 98' mustang. They are both bright red that I had done in a specialty garage. The 79' is a hard top with a chrome engine that I did personaly. With my 98' I got the most powerful engine and it is personaly the most nicest car because it has a 12 disc CD player and convertable top that is dark black. I am going to save this car for my son, now 14, who will be driving soon. Thank You Ford for producing the nicest muscle car ever!

I have a 65 Coupe that I bought for my Son in July of 1980. The car was origanally Honey Gold with black interior,a 289V8 and cruise-a-matic. We Restored it for him as a graduation present in 1981. We also repainted it Poppy Red. (I hate Honey Gold) The car slowly went down hill after that. It was involved in an accident. I fixed it back up for my Daughter and shorltly after it met up with a deer. Alas fix up number three. Then my yougest Son decided to take on a Semi trailer, He lost badly. I rebuilt the car again and after three kids drove it to high school. It is now resting very comfortably in my Fathers garage. Where it has been for the past 9 years. Know what scares me now? My youngest Daughter is now 15 and wants to know if she can keep the tradition of driving the old Horse to High School. I tod her I DONT KNOW. Guess what she seems to under stand. But you know what. She may not get to drive it to school but I cant resist letting her drive a REAL CAR.

My wife and I bought a 65 coupe in 1966 from a friend of mine who sold used cars. I loved the little rascal but my company transferred me in early 1968 and a company car came with the assignment so we sold the Mustang to her cousin. He kept it all this time and in good condition. Last month he sold it to his son who has no use for it SOOOO I bought it back. Planing to go to Atlanta next week and pick it up. I'm very excited.

I'm back to driving my first car, a Wimpleton white 1966 coupe. It was originally purchased by my father in '72 from Kendall Ford in Eugene Oregon for $750. He had the dealer rebuild the engine, transmission and driveline under the "90-day warranty!" I drove the car all through high school, adding the requisite "hot-rod" equipment (wheels, tires, loud exhaust etc), and after high school I joined the Navy. Being the gulible person I am, I believed that I would not need a car on a ship, and gave the ca r to my mother. Learned quick that I would need a car and found a '65 convertable which I drove for 6 years until a garage fire put it out of commission. Mom put around 30,000 miles on the coupe until 5 years ago, when she tired of driving something in southern California without air conditioning, and the car sat in the garage. I had it shipped to TX, where I have rebuilt the transmission, replaced all the hoses, rubber and other items damaged by sitting. It's a head-turner, and there is only one other white coupe in the area, who happens to live across the street from me! I'm sure that in 6 years it will return to high school.

I have only ever owned one American car, a 1966 Mustang GT Fast back with the 289 engine. Unfortunatly it wasn't in the greatest condition when I bought it, but once seen and most importantly, heard, I just had to have it! What a fantastic car it was. Trouble was that I was forever having problems with the local youths in their so called 'hot hatches'. They never were any match for a prime piece of V8 muscle. Any ways, it was the car in which I courted my wife, so I can give it thanks for that! How I wish that I still had it. I'm now hoping to find another, if the price is right. I would even buy a resto project, I'm that keen to get back in the saddle of a Mustang, the greatest car ever built!

My father and I went car-hunting for my very first automobile around the time I turned fifteen. What we eventually picked out was a beautiful midnight blue 1965 Mustang coupe. We spent many weekends working on the engine, tuning it up, making the car run perfectly. I'm now almost seventeen, and although there is still some work to be done, we've come a long way. My father not only taught me how to respect and maintain an automobile, but he showed me with one of the most amazing cars he could find. The Mustang tradition continues, and I know I'll be collecting and restoring these magnificent cars until the day I die.

In 1965 my husband purcheased a vintage burgandy fastback also knowen as a 641/2. He still has the orignal window sticker and the car listed for 2900. It was our family car until 1973. He loved his mustang and wanted to keep it and restore it, which I thought was very silly as we could have used the money for a new car. I'm glad he over rode my decision. We love going for Sunday drives in it and have done a prade with it. If anyone has a 65 convertable that will match it let me know. It needs to be vin tage burgandy with white pony interior.

I took delivery of a 66 GT on Oct.29,1965. It was signal flare red,4-bl,4spd. I have many good memeries. In 1978 with the car tore apart with what in mind in putting it back together again,I went through a divorce. My brother was 16 and looking for a ca r. I called my parents and said that if he came and got it it was his.To make a long story short he still has it.I now have a 1986 GT. In 1996 we made the trip to ATLANTA.I got to follow my old car to Atlanta and around the track during open track.sorry f or bending your ear, but most every day I get to see that car, not many people get to relive those memories for real.

My wife and I are currently having a '65 GT convertible restored from the bottom up. Every part has either been rebuilt or replaced. The color is Rangoon Red (what else?) with a white top and red and white Pony interior. Found the car in Jacksonville TX in restorable condition and did not have to replace any floor pans or cowl. About two to three months aways from completion and the excitement is growing!! We will both drive and show our "Stang". This has been our dream come true!!!!!!!

My first new car was a 85 Mustang GT, it was very affordable, fast and fun. I was able to school several Camaro and Firebird drivers in drag racing back in 85. Just recently I bought a 1965 Mustang Fastback GT K-Code. Car is in very bad shape, but it will be broght back to original condition. I love the styling of the 1965 Mustangs, I think it is the best looking Mustang ever, body lines and design details are incredible.

The Mustang is a great car. I've wanted one since I was about 6 years old. I finally purchased a 1965 Mustang 6 cylinder coupe which was about 96-98% original when I purchased it. I wound up replacing many parts and it even caught fire once due to a defective carb. But through it all it has been a great car. I plan on taking it to college in the fall. One day I will even get it painted. It is primer grey right now. It still turns heads when it's driven down the street. It is also an easy car to work on and a blast to drive. It's fun pulling up to a Taurus and beating them off the line with no effort. I've owned the car two years since I was 16 and I plan on keeping the car for a real long time. Of course I admit to doing some of those teenage things kids do to cars like a better stereo than original, gonna tint the windows, the interior lights have been replaced by a purple neon, but still looks like a classic and always will no matter what gets done. With replacing worn parts it has been lowered to about 90% original. I even had the original ignition coil until one of the posts snapped. It has all 4 original four lug wheels and I even tracked down a wheel for another '65 for a spare. Man 4-lugs are tough to get in NJ :). Feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions or just wanna talk about your Mustang. My advice: Buy a Mustang. It beats driving a blown 4-banger import car, especially those annoying CRXs and lowered Toyotas :). Have a nice day!

I think that the Ford Mustang was the Best, Hottest, and Greatest car ever invented. I wish that I had been alive to ride in one when they were brand new. I want to own a Classic Mustang in my lifetime. They are the best cars they are so pretty. I love them and i know all kinds of things about them because i get the Mustang Monthly Magazine. It was the greatest event in time.

Never owned a Mustang though I have come close. Liked some, hated others. Question: Do you have photos of the original Mustang I show car? It was featured in a recent issue of Autoweek. I would like to obtain photographs and more info about it. Is it featured in any books? regards, KA

I've been raised in a Mustang family from (pratical) day one. My dad took one of the first off the lot a Dub Shaw Ford in Ft. Worth Texas when they were introduced in 1964. A gold 289 coupe. Just months after getting that one, we had to make a n emergency trip to Los Angeles to "rescue" my sister. A little something called the Watts Riots kinda upset her summer vacation plans. I spent the whole trip sleeping on the back deck. Not much for child safety seats in those days. Dad (and that Mustang) made the trip from Cowtown to Tinsletown in less than 26 hours. You can imagine the speed we we're doing across the desert.

Since then, my older brother has owned two ('68 GT, 72 Cobra) and I drove a certain '64.5 coupe through high school and on to college. That car still sits in my dad's driveway today - ready to make another trip to LA.

I've managed to buy myself a beautiful '65 white convertible with blue interior from a poor soul in Campbell CA whose wife said they were too old to drive around topless. I'll never forget the look on his face when I drove his baby away....or the apprecia tion in his eyes when I would show up in his driveway on a perfect Saturday afternoon to do a little cruisin' in the mountains around San Jose.

The first car I remember my father buying was a new 1965 Mustang. It was a 6 cylinder, automatic, no thrill Honey Gold coupe, with air conditioning. My dad drove the car until the late 70's when he parked it and finally sold it to a family f riend in 1983. Little did I know then that one day I would fall in love with the small pony cars and desire one of my own.

I tried unsuccessfully on several ocassions to purchase my dad's car back but to no avail. Yet still I had to have an early Pony of my own. I finally got my dream fulfilled. I purchased a 1966 GT. This little black beauty was much different from my da d's, having a 289 V-8, red pony interior, and a few other options, but it still brought back memories. I have owned several classic cars over the last 10 years, but for shear fun of ownership and driving pleasure, none compare to my little pony car. It i s definitely my "keeper".

I own a 1968 Mustang Fastback that I bought in 1978, as a Senior in High School. The car was driven in central New York winters for the ten years before I owned it, and required lots of body work to make it look as good as new again. I spent countless days and nights working on the car, which kept me out of trouble. The car always was and still is a head turner - with its original Royal Maroon paint and white C-stripe. I have fond memories of driving the car in my high school and college days. I still own the car today, and plan on giving it to my eldest son when he's in high school.

March 15, 1996 - Michael Cozad writes:

I own and drive daily a 1964 1/2 Mustang coupe. It was designed as a basic family car and that is fine it has plenty of power and room and gets realtively great gas mileage on the highway (23 mpg at 65 mph loaded or or not). I have found that since I go to college away from my family that one can stuff most of an apartment into one of these cars.

According to "Old Cars News" less than 3,000 of all 1964 1/2 Mustangs were built with the six cylinder engine. I was planning to hold onto it anyway if I could but now I have a bigger reason, it may actually be worth money someday!

The car as it stands today still has some original equipment on it. When I bought it I had to replace the rest of the original front suspension. I had to buy a replacement coil for the original. I even rebuilt the master cylinder-albeit it did not need it. I still drive around with the original brake system. The seals are original along with the hoses and they don't leak!
