School Buses

The Ford E-Series Super Duty Cutaway plays a key role in the school bus industry by a providing a chassis that has a reputation for being safe, tough, versatile and dependable—all attributes of a successful school bus.

Type A School Bus

The Type A school bus consists of a bus body constructed on a cutaway vehicle (with a left-side driver’s door), designed for carrying more than 10 people. The Type A school bus has two classifications: Type A-1, with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 10,000 lbs. or less, and a Type 2-A, with a GVWR of 10,000 lbs. or more. Importantly, Type A school buses meet all Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) for school buses.

Multifunction School Activity Buses

Multifunction School Activity Buses (MFSAB) are an excellent choice for childcare providers and required for those childcare providers that transport 10 or more passengers. They’re similar in appearance to the Type A school bus and meet all FMVSS standards, but they don’t include the warning lights and stop arm. Another difference is that MFSABs aren’t required to conform to a specific exterior color scheme.
